The 2016 Africa Academy Movie Awards (AAMA) was held at the Dr Obi Wali Event Centre in the heart of Port Harcourt on Saturday evening with the top stars all in attendance.

Dignitaries and captains of industries led former Senate President, David Mark, were in attendance at the impressive event.

The movie Meet the Parents won the award for best Short Film on the night. Cursed One, a movie produced in. Ghana won the award for achievement in Production Design.

The Pencil claimed the prize for the best animated movie while the award for Best Documentary went to The Fruitless Tree, a documentary from Niger.

Across the Track won the award for the Best Diaspora Short Film.

There are African movie makers who are doing the continent proud abroad and for the category of the Best Film by An African Living Abroad, Lambadina was the winner.

For the hugely impressive make up job on a story well told, The Soldier Story won the Best Achievement In Makeup, while Nigeria’s “O town” got the Best Award for achievement in Soundtrack.

The award for achievement in visual effect went to Nigeria movie, Oshimiri. The AMAA 2016 prize for sound goes to Nigeria’s Fifty.

Cursed One also made Ghana proud by winning the AMAA prize for Cinematography.

The award for the AMAA 2016 for achievement in editing was won by South Africa movie: Hear Me Move.

South Africa movie, Tell Me Sweet Something won the prize for Achievement in Screenplay.

Rivers State Endowed Award for Best Nigerian Movie was won by Stephanie Linus’ thriller, Dry.

The award for the Best Film in an African Language went to Missing God (Nigeria).

Abidine Dioari was declared the winner of the Best Actor in a Supporting Role.

Veteran actor and former broadcaster Pete Edochie urged the Federal Government through the Ministry of  Information to restore History in the school curriculum while Richard Mofe Damijo dedicated his A Lifetime Achievement Award to the youths of Niger Delta.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was also handed to Olu Jacobs and wife, Joke, for their contributions to the movie industry.
