Nigerian boxer, Efetobore Apochi on Monday qualified for the quarter-finals of the on-going AIBA 2016 World Boxing Qualification Event in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Apochi, overcame Republic of Ireland’s Darren O’Neill 3-0 on points in the heavyweight category, to cruise into the last eight.  He will now face Roy Korving from the Netherlands on Tuesday for a place in the semi-finals.
To get to the quarter-finals, Korving defeated New Zealand’s David Nyika 3-0 on points.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s other representative to the World Boxing Qualificaton event, Umar Sadiq, lost on Sunday to Petr Khamukov from Russia, Sadiq consequently will not be eligible to represent Nigeria at the Rio Olympics.
