Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi hopes to return to action for both club and country as he continues his rehabilitation after a successful surgery, reports.

The Tianjin Teda midfielder underwent surgery in April for an abdominal injury but took to his Instagram page on Monday to inform his fans that he is close to being fit.

“Few more weeks and I’m back on the pitch with my boys #TianjinTeda #SuperEagles #recovery ⚽️,” Mikel wrote with a video of himself with a ball at the gym.

Mikel Obi has played only three games for his Chinese club since his move from Chelsea and has scored one goal for Teda. His last appearance for Tianjin Teda was in their 2-0 victory over Chongqing Lifan in April in a Chinese Super
League clash.

The 30-year-old and other Super Eagles stars in the Chinese Super League were not part of the Nigerian team that lost 2-0 to South Africa in their first 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on June 10 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.
