Football took a front seat in diplomatic circle on Thursday as Super Eagles’ duo of William Troost-Ekong and Mikel Agu had a rare privilege of meeting Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari in Turkey this Thursday.

President Buhari is in Ankara, Turkey on official visit. Both William Troost-Ekong and Mikel Agu are club players with Bursaspor F.C of Turkey. The visit was confirmed by the twitter messages of William Troost-Ekong who remarked that the two players felt excited meeting the president at the Mausoleum in Ankara.

He wrote: “@Wtroostekong Honoured NG@MBuhari”. President Buhari also showed appreciation by replying: “@NG President and President Erdogan meet Nigeria footballer William Troost-Ekong at the presidential palace in Ankara, Turkey”.

President Buhari was in the company of Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during the meeting with the Super Eagles duo.

President Buhari later visited the mausoleum of Turkey’s founding father, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, before meeting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at Turkey presidential palace.

Both Troost- Ekong and Mikel Agu were in action during Super Eagles victorious match against Zambia in Uyo on October 7.
