Nigeria on Friday were drawn against Argentina for the 2018 World Cup finals.

It is a record fifth time Nigeria will draw Argentina at a FIFA World Cup. The Super Eagles will also face Croatia and Iceland in Group D of the World Cup beginning

Other countries in Group D are Iceland and Croatia with a game against the Croats on June 16 being Nigeria’s first game at Russia 2018. They will play Iceland on June 22 before the clash against Lionel Messi and co on June 26.

Argentina versus Nigeria at the 2014 World Cup

Nigeria first met Argentina at its first ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 1994, losing a tight game that ended 2-1. Both countries met again in 1998, 2002 and 2014.

The FIFA World Cup draws was conducted by the duo of Gary Lineker and Maria Komandnaya. Former Spain and Barcelona international Carles Puyol pulled out Nigeria’s name from the pots.

Several football icons participated in the draw, some of which are Pele, Diego Maradona, Gordon Banks, Cafu, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Okocha, Laurent Blanc, Peter Schmeichel, Carlos Puyol, Ronaldo de Lima, and Ronaldinho.

The month-long mundial hosted by Russia will begin on June 14 to July 15.
