Barcelona came from a goal down to defeat Sevilla 2-1 in the 32nd Spanish Super Cup at the Grand Stand de Tangier Stadium, Morocco on Sunday night.

Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele were the scorers for Barcelona while Pablo Sarabia got first on the score sheet for Sevilla.

It was Lionel Messi’s 33rd trophy in his career.

Former Europa League serial winners Sevilla went ahead through Sarabia who profited from a Luis Muriel assist to fire the ball past Mac-Andre ter Stegen. Sarabia’s goal was awarded in the ninth minute after it was debated by the VAR team for suspicion of an offside.

Arsenal target Ousmane Dembele was a thorn in the flesh of the Sevilla back line with some deft touches and crosses into the dangerous areas while Luis Suarez almost equalised with an angled placed effort that went agonisingly wide by some inches in the 37th minute.

Gerard Pique however scored Barcelona’s equaliser from a rebound in the 42nd minute after the ball hit the foot of the post from a Lionel Messi freekick, and the back of Sevilla keeper Thomas Vaclik before reaching the former Spain international.

Sevilla were presented with a big chance to go ahead again with close to an hour on the clock but Muriel’s shot hit the side net from the right side of their attack. The Colombian was soon replaced by on-loan Andre Silva who arrived from AC Milan.

Franco Vasquez’s header from Ever Banega’s corner kick was promising for Sevilla as the ball clipped the crossbar and went out for goal kick. Dembele’s rasping shot for Barcelona was saved afterwards.

Vaclik produced two outstanding saves to deny Suarez and Messi in the 77th minute but he had no answer to Dembele’s unstoppable right footed shot to the top right corner a minute later.

Yassim Ben Yedder was denied by Gerard Pique’s blocked shot eight minutes to full time but Sevilla got the chance to equalise from the French born Tunisian from the penalty spot four minutes later after Pablo Serabia was fouled by Mac-Andre ter Steven in the box. Yedder missed with a poor penalty.

It finished 2-1 with Barcelona claiming the win which was their 13th triumph in the competition.
