Lionel Messi scored a hat trick thereby achieving a 50th career treble and assisted teammate Luis Suarez on Saturday evening as Barcelona defeated Sevilla 4-2 at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

In the 22nd minute Jesus Navas found himself clear on goal after an exquisite pass from Yissam Ben Yedder and unleashed a shot which beat Andres Ter Stegen and put Sevilla ahead.

Messi restored parity for Barcelona four minutes later as he curled a left footed shot to the top left corner with a great assist of from former Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic.

With three minutes left to play in the first half, Gabriel Mercado sent Ter Stegen the wrong way when he latched onto a through pass from Pablo Sarabia.

Messi produced another moment of magic as he placed the ball to the top right corner when Ousmane Dembele who came off the bench in place of Arturo Vidal found him at the edge of the box in the 67th minute.

Messi then scored his hat trick and also assisted Luis Suarez to extend their lead at the top of the table.
